A Liquid Xenon Detector for Positron Emission Tomography
نویسنده
چکیده
Here, we report on the present state of development of a liquid xenon detector composed by multiwire ionisation chambers, which has been developed for positron emission tomography (PET). It uses the fast scintillation signal for coincidence and subsequent trigger of the event processing. The charge signals induced on the wires are used for position determination along the radial and transaxial directions of the tomograph, as well as for energy information. The following detector characteristics have been achieved: i) coincidence time resolution better than 1.5 ns (fwhm); ii) position precision along the radial direction equal to 5 mm; iii) position resolution in the transaxial direction of 0.8 mm (fwhm); iv) energy resolution of 17% (fwhm) for 511 keV y-rays; v) efficiency of trigger of about 100%; vi) overall efficiency of detection of 60%. The prospects for the development of this detector in view of its application in PET are discussed.

Alzheimer's disease is characterized by impaired glucose metabolism and demonstration of amyloid plaques. Individual positron emission tomography tracers may reveal specific signs of pathology that is not readily apparent on inspection of another one. Combination of multitracer positron emission tomography imaging yields promising results. In this paper, 57 Alzheimer's disease neuroimaging ini...
متن کاملThe effect of fasting on Positron Emission Tomography (PET) imaging
As a nuclear approach, Positron Emission Tomography (PET) is a functional imaging technique which is based on the detection of gamma ray pairs emitted by a positron-emitting radionuclide. There are certain limitations to this technique such as normal tissue uptake. Therefore, it has been recommended that patients prepare before scanning. Fasting for a short while before PET imaging is an exampl...

Introduction Range and diffusion of positron-emitting radiopharmaceuticals are important parameters for image resolution in positron emission tomography (PET). In this study, GEANT4 toolkit was applied to study positron diffusion in soft tissues with and without a magnetic field for six commonly used isotopes in PET imaging including 11C, 13N, 15O, 18F, 68Ga, and 82Rb. Background: Iodine-123 (123I) is regarded as one of the best radionuclides for in vivo medical studies using single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) due to its suitable physical property. Materials and Methods: To design a new system in order to replace cryogenically solidified xenon target by the gas one, some necessary calculations are needed to be done such as finding the excitati...
